The Dispersion of Volatile Organic Compounds in Zero-G: Column Scents
The knowledge used from this experiment will be applied to an experiment, proposed to improve the scents onboard the ISS for astronauts.
The students are developing a systematic procedure to release fragrant organic essential oils under microgravity conditions. By the use of specialized sensors for volatile organic compounds, they will measure sensor readings for specified areas of diffusion of the volatile organic compound on earth and in microgravity to determine differences. The experiment flew April 5th and 6th 2011 onboard the Zero Gravity plane at Ellington Field Houston, TX.
